Hi @BigRed37

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for posting your query! We're here to help you get back up and running.

To erase your HP Pavilion zv5000 running Windows XP, you can securely wipe the data and reset the system.

Here’s how you can proceed:

Option 1: Use the Built-in Recovery Partition

  1. Restart your laptop and press F10 or F11 repeatedly during startup to access the recovery options.
  2. Follow the on-screen instructions to restore the system to factory settings. This will erase all personal data and reinstall Windows XP.

Option 2: Use Disk Management

  1. Boot into Windows XP and log in as an administrator.
  2. Open Disk Management by right-clicking My Computer > Manage > Disk Management.
  3. Format the hard drive partitions to erase the data. Note: This will not securely wipe the data.

Option 4: Reinstall Windows XP

  1. Insert a Windows XP installation CD into the laptop.
  2. Restart the laptop and boot from the CD.
  3. Follow the installation process and choose the option to format the hard drive before reinstalling Windows XP.
