Hi. Ive been trying to do an HP Cloud Recovery on my computer because of a broken camera. I've attempted cloud recovery several times, and it always fails. Usually the download occurs, and right before it finishes, download restarts. This process happens two more times and ultimately gives me the error, 0xC00400. Ive tried changing flashdrives, and ive restarted my laptop. Ive also tried repairing and resetting the HP Cloud restore app. Any suggestions for fixing this?

Hi @dsm8,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks for sharing the details. The HP Cloud Recovery Tool error 0xC00400 typically occurs during the final stages of the recovery image download, often due to:
- Corrupted or unstable internet connection
- USB drive compatibility issues
- HP server-side interruptions
- Firewall or antivirus interference
Here’s how to troubleshoot and resolve it:
1. Use a Different USB Drive (32–64 GB, FAT32)
- Avoid using USBs larger than 64 GB or with unusual formatting.
- Format the USB to FAT32 before starting the recovery process.
2. Use a Wired Ethernet Connection
- If possible, connect your laptop to the internet via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi or a hotspot.
- This ensures a stable and uninterrupted download, which is critical during recovery.
3. Temporarily Disable Antivirus/Firewall
- Some security software may interfere with the download or verification process.
- Temporarily disable any third-party antivirus or firewall during the recovery.
4. Run the Tool as Administrator
- Right-click the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and select “Run as administrator”.
5. Try Another PC to Create the Recovery USB
- If your Spectre is unstable, use a different Windows PC to run the HP Cloud Recovery Tool.
- Enter your product ID or serial number when prompted.
