My computer's fan never seems to stop.  If I'm using it, the fan comes on for several seconds then turns off, and this happens over and over as long as I'm using it, and even after I walk away.  If I walk away long enough for it to go to sleep, it will start running constantly, and I often find a blue screen when I check.  When I attempt to put it to sleep, it will often go to the blue screen there as well, and the fan will run constantly.  The tower is not in a warm environment and is not dusty inside.  Everything is well-seated.

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

Your PC is over seven years old. Components can fail at any time. But seven years is a long time. HP provides Windows 8 drivers for your PC but never validated your PC to run Windows 10 (W10). It could be a new W10 version which is causing problems.

Fans are controlled by motherboard (MB) thermal sensors. So you could have a MB component problem if you see blue screens.

You could also have a MB thermal sensor problem in the BIOS. There are no current BIOS updates for your PC.

It is also possible the power supply is in trouble.

A persistent no boot scenario (now) could also suggest the motherboard has failed or is failing.

Lastly, it could be a system driver problem causing run away processes which cause MB thermals to rise which in turn causes the fans to run at high RPMs and resultant blue screen's.

Very hard to diagnose in a forum.

I suggest you have a reliable, local PC Tech have a look.

Regards
