Find out Windows 10 Key in my new HP ProDesk 400 G2

Hi all,

I just got this brand new computer and I have to say that is so well made! So I got Windows 10 Pro DVD, Drivers, and the computer. It has a 500GB drive that I am going to replace it for a SSD. I wanted to pull the Windows 10 Pro key and despite of having read all these messages in the forum, it's not clear how to do it. Sorry but I am new to the PC world, I work with MAC and I bought this computer for my job. If I go to Windows Settings, System and then About; you have a Windows 10 key number. If you use the software Magical Jelly Bean Finder you get a different one, if you go to terminal and you type this "wmic path SoftwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey" you get a different one. I am really confused! What is the real one? I could find it in the BIOS under any menu. I wonder why is so difficult to get my KEY. I would appreciate if somebody could help me. Probably it's easy but I am new to the PC world.

Hi, David:

You don't need to know the product key to reinstall W10.

As long as you install the same version the key is good for, W10 won't even ask you to enter a product key.

it will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

However, I have zipped up and attached below, a free utility that will show you the W10 product key in the BIOS.

It is simple to use...double click and run the file.

I got two OEM DVDs with the HP ProDesk 400; Windows 7 and Windows 10. So, I converted the Original HP Windows 10 DVD disk to a bootable Windows 10 USB using Rufus under MAC (I didn't get a DVD/CD rom unit with this PC) Tomorrow I'll install it and try everything to see if it works out. Thanks again for your help. It's tough to find the right solution.

I just used ShowKeyPlus and I got this:

Which Windows is installed in my computer? What is the real key? Should I download Windows 10 Pro from Microsoft and install it using any of these keys or is better to install the Windows that comes on the DVD because of the drivers? Are the drivers available on a clean Windows 10 Pro downloaded from Microsoft or not? I don't think HP has the drivers on their website anymore for this computer P5U79UT#ABA. I would appreciate your input.

Hi:

The key that will work with the HP or Microsoft installation media is the one in the BIOS.

OEM KEY: XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-78RJ2

As I posted yesterday, when you select the option to install W10 Pro, you won't need to enter any keys, so it really doesn't matter.

if you only received one W10 DVD from HP, it only has the vanilla operating system on it. 

You would need to install the drivers from your PC's support page whether you use the Microsoft media or the HP media.

HP has drivers for all of their business PC's going back to 2003 or so.
