Microsoft Windows 11

Had to replace the motherboard on a HP Pavilion desktop.   Now can't use any of the Microsoft Office products.   Says the Trusted Platform Module has malfunctioned.   I assume because the motherboard was replaced.   Spent hours going down rabbit holes trying to fix the TPM.   Please advise if you have a legitimate solution.

Hi @andej7,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The error code 80090030 related to a malfunctioning Trusted Platform Module (TPM) often occurs when there are issues with the TPM chip or its configuration after hardware changes, such as replacing the motherboard. Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you resolve this issue and regain access to your Microsoft Office products:

1. Verify TPM Status in BIOS/UEFI:

Restart Your Computer:

  • Enter BIOS/UEFI settings during boot. This is usually done by pressing a key like F2, F10, Delete, or Esc immediately after powering on.

Locate TPM Settings:

  • Navigate to the Security or Advanced tab (depending on your BIOS/UEFI version) and find TPM settings.

Check TPM Status:

  • Ensure that TPM is enabled and properly configured. If there is an option to initialize or reset TPM, you can use that.

Save and Exit:

  • Save any changes and exit BIOS/UEFI. Your computer will reboot.

2. Clear TPM in BIOS/UEFI (if necessary):

Access BIOS/UEFI:

  • Go back to BIOS/UEFI settings.

Clear TPM:

  • Find the option to clear or reset TPM. This will remove the existing TPM data and might resolve the error.

Save Changes and Reboot:

  • Save changes and restart your computer. You will likely need to reconfigure TPM settings and re-enroll it in Windows.

3. Check TPM Driver in Windows:

Open Device Manager:

  • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.

Locate TPM Driver:

  • Expand the Security Devices section and find the Trusted Platform Module.

Update Driver:

  • Right-click on Trusted Platform Module and select Update driver. Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.

Restart:

  • Restart your computer after updating the driver.

4. Reinstall Microsoft Office:

Uninstall Office:

  • Go to Settings > Apps and find Microsoft Office. Uninstall it.

Download and Reinstall:

Activate Office:

  • After installation, launch Office and follow the prompts to activate it. Ensure you have your product key or Microsoft account credentials ready.

5. Check for Windows Updates:

Open Windows Update:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Check for Updates:

  • Click Check for updates and install any available updates. This ensures your system is up-to-date and might resolve TPM-related issues.

6. Run Windows Troubleshooter:

Open Troubleshooter:

  • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot.

Run Troubleshooter:

  • Select Additional troubleshooters and run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter, which may help if the issue affects Office apps.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Your instructions are very good.  Unfortunately, the motherboard the local PC repair shop installed only has chinese letters once I get into F10 - BIOS settings.

How can I order the correct motherboard replacement for my HP Pavilion desktop, S/N CNV7290NVP?
