Hi all, I've purchased a bunch (6) of Pavillion Slimlines off eBay (avg $14) for my grandkids, family, did some updates (mobo, ram, SSD, etc) and kept a few stock to run older games my (grown) kids played when they were little. So a few S5-3600f (XP), s5-5100 (Vista), and a couple stock -1021p, -1414's .. ssd, ram, GT470, 550, 640, 730 video upgrades on those OEM boards, cpu upgrades (E7500/8400/8500/8600 .. i7-3570/-3770's for the -2130's as well to pep things up a bit, also newer atheros 5g boards .. also new 300w/350w ITX power supplys ..
Problem is, original HDD's are missing, bad or dead. I found XP, Vista and 8/8.1 recovery .iso's online but the install key case labels are gone and I can not find a good link for a utility to get the # from the 2012 AMI 8.08 bios to retrieve it from. And I cannot tell which OS build was on the original .. Basic, Home or Pro so I dont know which OS to recover to 😕
So ..
Any good places to get ProdKey type retriever from bios, or how to get the original XP, Vista or 8 keys to reactivate?
These are -only- for the original OEM builds, builds where I swapped mobos, i installed my own retail Win 10/11 os.
Also, where can I find a Legacy (XP, Vista, 7, 😎 Support Assistant d/l? A couple here on the HP Support page have broken (404) links ..
I love, Love, LOVE the small form of the slimlines so I want to stick with for a while until they break for good, or OS just wont work on them anymore, they are not used online, just on in house network.
Thanks
Paula

Hi, Paula:
For the PC's that came with W8, the product key is encrypted in the PC's BIOS.
If you were able to make a W8.1 installation ISO file, use the free Rufus utility to transfer the ISO file to a USB flash drive so that it is bootable.
Use this generic W8.1 key to install W8.1:
334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT
Then after you get W8.1 installed, change the generic product key to the W8 OEM product key in the PC's BIOS.
You can use the free showkey plus app that I zipped up and attached below to view the W8 OEM product key in the BIOS.
For any of the PC's that don't have product key stickers for XP, Vista or W7, sorry but you are flat out of luck there.
Your only option would be to order HP factory recovery media from this vendor at the link below for each model:
Or you can install Ubuntu on the PC's for free.

If that version is still too new, then see this discussion for an older version which no longer exists on HP's FTP site from my Skydrive folder.
