HP desktop 110-430
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

I recklessly went into my HP desktop 110-430 using alt-control-delete into task manager and deleted files I thought were slowilg down my PC.

Obviously not knowing what I was doing, the PC now sounds like it goes through it's normal start up cycle but does not send signal to monitor so I have no idea what it is doing.   Suspect I may have disabled/deleted the file that supports the display. Can anybody out there help to set it back to defaults? There was a default back up on the PC but I did not get a disk with the new purchase 3-4 years ago.......and with no display, cannot reset to defaults.

ThanK you Tom.  Have checked power and video cable couple times as one post suggested powering down monitor to 'reset' it.  Power light on monitor stays on and a 'no signal' message comes up and, when cord taken off, monitor displays message 'no cable connected' all leaving me to think that was not the problem.

As a long shot, based on your latest suggestion, I got another video cable and strung it over to a nearby tv with video capability and LOW AND BEHOLD, an HP image appeared!!....I then strung the same video cord to PC monitor and, low and behold, same image!!.....going to now reload bios and see if I am back in business.  Will let you know.......

Thank you for sticking with this.............

Hi @Thaley615,

Thanks for engaging in HP support Forums! This is a wonderful location to converse with the community, get assistance and find tips! I understand you are having issues with the computer does not boot into Windows anymore. Don't worry as I have a few suggestions which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

When you try to turn it on, do you hear the fan running? Or do you get any beeping noises/blinking lights?

When was the last time it worked?

In the meantime, let's try these steps here:

Perform a Hard reset on the Desktop:

Many startup errors and other problems can be resolved by decreasing the amount of power stored in hardware components. Decreasing stored power is sometimes referred to as a "Hard Reset". Use the following steps to perform a hard reset on a computer:

  1. If Windows is open, click Start and then Shutdown.

If Windows is not open and the computer has power, press and hold the power button on the computer until the computer shuts off.

  2. With the power off, disconnect the power cord from the back of the computer.

  3. With the power off and the power cord disconnected, press the power button on the computer for 5 seconds. The power light indicator on or near the power button might turn on briefly but then go out.

  4. Reconnect the power cord and turn on the power.

If the issue persists, I would suggest here is to follow all the steps suggested in the support document for - HP Desktop PCs - Computer Does Not Start (Windows 10, 😎

Please let me know if this resolves the issue, or if you require further assistance!

Eagerly waiting for your response!

I hope you have a good day ahead,

And Feel free to ask your queries as this forum has some of the best people in the world available and ready to help.

Thank you Jeet_singh for your assistance.  To answer your question, when I try turning on the PC is sounds as it always did 'booting up', CD engages, fan seems to come on, hard drive indicator light flickers.....but, no display on the screen, monitor reports "no signal".  Checked all the connections, no problem.

albeit slow, the computer was working fine until about a week ago.  There is no data on this PC that would be a problem if lost in this process.

will likely not get time to try your solution until tomorrow or Thursday....will give you an update when I do.........

thanks

Good evening Jeet_singh...........tried the hard reset which did not resolve he problem.  I then explored the help link you provided and tried the restart, pressing F10 during start up, then hit down arrow three times, then enter twice.  No response to these actions.  Power light remains on throughout and beyond.

other remedies all rely on a display on the screen to use.......think I need to reset my PC back to defaults but, without the display and no disks for this PC, not sure I can do the restore? Any suggestions?  I do not have any data on this PC that isn't backed up to n flash drive.

thank you

Hi @Thaley615,

As I understand you tried to follow the steps suggested in the previous post and still having issues with the computer won't boot to the desktop screen. This looks like a possible hardware failure. I would recommend you contact our HP Phone support for available service related options.

HP Technical Support can be reached by clicking on the following link: http://h22207.www2.hp.com/us-en/?openCLC=true

(1) Once the support page opens please select the country in which you're located. Next, enter your HP model number on the right.

(2) Next, choose the 'Contact Support' tab at the top and scroll down to the bottom of the 'HP Support- Contact' page to fill out the form provided with your contact information.

(3) Once completed click the 'Show Options' icon on the bottom right.

(4) Lastly, scroll down to the bottom of the page and select 'Get the phone number.' A case number and phone number will now populate for you.

If you have any troubles, let me know and I will do my best to help!

Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again

Hi Thaley615

Please excuse me for adding to this conversation.

The following suggestion would be one last thing you could try before contacting HP or a local PC technician.

I see what you have done. You may have removed critical Windows system files. But this should not prevent you from getting video or a POST screen.

Disconnect your PC from AC power. Depress the power switch to drain residual power on the motherboard.

You could remove the side panel. Remove the CR2032 motherboard battery located in the top left corner of the motherboard. Let it sit for about ten minutes.

Reverse this process, connect to AC power, then tap "ESC" at startup to see if you get video and access to the BIOS.

Hardware may have coincidentally failed if you can't get video.

Thank you Tom.  You have it right, this problem is self inflicted.  I will try your recomendatio.  Seems you think that, even with my willful deletion of files they, somehow can still be accessed?  Is it possible that I deleted files critical in the start up of the system that now must get re-installed?

Thank you again,

Tim

Hi Tim

You are welcome.

Trying to determine if your PC has, unfortunately, a coincidental hardware problem.

Strange things can happen.

You may have probably corrupted operating system files.

But you should be able to Power on Self Test (POST). Onboard graphics should give you video so you can see what is happening and allow you to enter the BIOS.

You will probably have to reinstall the HP factory operating system if you can get the video going at POST.

Your symptoms don't jive with corrupted operating system files.

Tom
