I have an all in one desktop, and one day I came into my room to find it on the Blue Screen of Death. At first it was asking me for a Bit locker recovery key, and it wouldn't accept the correct key until I followed instructions to put in the key through command prompt. That got past the Bit Locker screen, but it still would not boot correctly. It gives me an error screen with the frowny face with the error code Bad System Config Info, before booting back to the blue screen. 

I've already tried the following options

-I tried resetting the computer, and it just told me reset failed. (Both for saving files and clean slate reset)

-I tried doing a system restore from the last saved restore points, and it just told me that it failed. 

-I tried reinstalling windows using a bootable USB, and that started to install and then just gave me a failed message.

 

I'm not sure what else to try at this point.

It sounds like you've been through quite a troubleshooting journey already—My apologies you're dealing with this! The "Bad System Config Info" error can be tricky, but here are some additional steps you can try:

 

Check Boot Configuration Data (BCD):

  • Open Command Prompt from the recovery options.
  • Run the following commands:
    bootrec /repairbcd
    bootrec /osscan
    bootrec /repairmbr
  • Restart your computer and see if the issue is resolved.

 

Run CHKDSK:

  • In Command Prompt, type chkdsk C: /f /r and press Enter. This will check your disk for errors and attempt to fix them.

 

Update Drivers:

  • If you can boot into Safe Mode, update your drivers, especially for storage and chipset.

 

Reset BIOS Settings:

  • Access the BIOS/UEFI settings and reset them to default. Sometimes incorrect settings can cause boot issues.

 

Test Hardware:

  • Run diagnostics on your hard drive and RAM. HP desktops often have built-in diagnostics accessible via the BIOS menu.
