Hi
I have a Samsung 850 Evo ssd as a boot drive on my pc. Following a BIOS update the PC won't boot from the SSD. However when I reinstalled the OS in the hard drive it went fine, but even then with the SSD attached it won't boot. The SSD however is recognised fine in a Dell machine with win 10.
Please help.

Elsewhere on this forum, others have had the same problem, namely that a BIOS update causes any SSD to become "non-bootable".

Since the BIOS update cannot be "undone", the solution is to add-in an inexpensive PCI/PCI-E adapter card that has one SATA-III port, and connect the SSD to that port, rather than connecting the SSD to the motherboard.

Or, wait for HP to issue another BIOS update. :Crying:

This issue is still unsolved. I flashed the BIOS from 30.10.2019 and it is still not possible to boot or start with a connected SSD drive. With the greatest respect to HP, and to all stuff envolved, I must say that I have difficulties accepting this unsolved SSD issue. Excuse me, but what should I tell my client tomorrow? It simply doesn't look good at all and it was a waste of time for me!

Hi there,

let me please dig out this thread.

Is this a unique compatiblity problem on 280 G2 machines or does HP really blocks 3rd party SSDs?

If so, will we see this more often in the future?

Only on cheaper series or also on Pro- and EliteDesks?

I am asking because I'm about to buy a few machines and such a behavior from a manufacturer is... let´s say it politely... a bit disturbing.

Thank you,

martima3

Hello Martima3,

I'm cloning HP computers on a daily basis. I never had this problem before on HP machines. For this reason we only buy HP for our customers.

In my view only the HP 280 G2 series are affected. I successfully cloned HDD to SSD on the G3 and later series. All the Pro- and Elite lines are capable to handle SSD's with no hassle. This also applies to all the Pro- and EliteBooks.

I hope that I could clear up your insecurities.

Roland

Hi. I'm having the same issue with an  hp slimline 260-a120np.  Tried two models of Samsung ssd. Nothing works. I get a simply hp logo.
