HI @LCulvert,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
When an HP All-In-One computer or any device won’t power on after a storm, it could be due to several issues related to power surges, outages, or other storm-related problems. Here’s a step-by-step troubleshooting guide to help you determine the cause and potentially resolve the issue:
1. Check the Power Supply
- Ensure that the power cord is securely connected to both the computer and the electrical outlet.
- Check the power cord and adapter for any visible damage, such as fraying or burns. If damaged, replace the cord or adapter.
- Plug another device into the same outlet to ensure the outlet is working properly. If the outlet is faulty, try a different outlet.
2. Power Cycle the Computer
- Unplug the power cord from the computer and the wall outlet.
- Press and hold the power button on the computer for 15-30 seconds to discharge any residual power.
- Plug the power cord back into the computer and the wall outlet.
- Press the power button to see if the computer turns on.
3. Inspect for Signs of Power
- Look for any LED indicator lights on the computer or power button. If there are no lights, it could indicate a power issue.
- Pay attention for any sounds, such as fan noise or beeps, when you press the power button.
4. Check for Surge Damage
- Look for any signs of damage that could have been caused by a power surge, such as burnt or melted components.
- If you weren’t using a surge protector, it’s recommended to connect the computer to one in the future to protect against power surges.
5. Perform Basic Hardware Checks
- If you are comfortable opening the computer, carefully check and reseat internal components like RAM and hard drives. This is less likely to be the issue but can sometimes resolve power problems.
- If you have a desktop model and it’s safe to do so, check if the PSU is functioning correctly or needs replacement.
6. Test with Different Power Sources:
- If possible, use a different power cable or adapter that is known to work with another device.:
- Plug the computer into a different power outlet to rule out outlet-specific issues.
7. Check for External Factors
- Ensure the computer has not suffered any water damage from the storm. If you suspect water damage, avoid turning on the computer and seek professional help.
- Make sure the computer is not overheating due to blocked vents or excessive dust. Clean vents if necessary.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
