Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Hi all,

Looking forward to getting some help. I tried to update the BOIS and it was taking forever, I left it on over night. In the morning all it had was the HP symbol. When rebooted it does not boot past the HP symbol. I got a wired keyboard and tried booting with the Windows key and B key depressed. I get the eight beeps and the only thing I can get on the screen is:

Processor type: Intel (R) Core(TM) I7-4790T CPU @ 2.70 GHZ

Processors Speed 2700MHZ

L1/L2/L3 Cache Size ....

.....

The last line says :

BIOS Revision/Date: v80.10.07/03/2108

What do you recommend? I would really like to get it working again. Can I put a boot file on a USB and manually restore the BIOS?

Oh, and it appears that the function keys do nothing if held during startup. (Yes, I unplugged it and held the power key and then plugged it back in to do a hard restart at one point.)

Thanks,

Shane

@Shane32 There's a certain process to initiating the BIOS recovery on the device and here's what you need to know:

When you upgrade the BIOS on your PC, a copy of the previous BIOS version is stored in the HP_TOOLS partition of your hard drive. Many HP computers have an emergency BIOS recovery feature that allows you to recover and install the last known good version of the BIOS from the hard drive, as long as the hard drive remains functional. This emergency recovery feature is separate from the BIOS and is designed to work in the event of a catastrophic BIOS failure.

To recover an earlier version of the BIOS on your PC:

  1. Turn off the computer.

  2. With the computer off, press and hold the Windows logo key  and the B key at the same time.

Hi, I tried the Windows B keys and while I did get the eight beeps it went to the HP logo. I left it for a while and nothing happened. When I hit the next key sequence I get the Processor Type, Processor Speed, L1/L2/L3 Cache Sizes, ......

It says at that screen to hit ESC to get the Startup Menu but when I hit ESC nothing happens.

It appears I have a very expensive brick at this point. I would really like to fix this issue.

Thanks,

Shane

@Shane32 If you've gone through the step by step process of recovering an older version of BIOS and yet the issue persists, this could be a hardware failure and I suggest you talk to HP support and discuss your options:

follow the below steps to get started:

1) Click on this link - www.hp.com/contacthp/

2) Click on "Continue as guest".

3) Enter the serial of your device.

4) Select the country from the drop-down.

5) Click on "Show Options".

Fill the web-form, to populate a case number and phone number for yourself!

Also, if you are having trouble navigating through the above options, it's most likely because the device is out of warranty, if yes? please send me a private message with the region you are contacting us from,

here's how private messages work: Click here for details.
