I have an HP Desktop (700-414) with Windows 10. about a month ago it starts thinking its on battery power and shuts down because the battery % is 0%. It's not plugged into a UPS and I know that it is set for Desktop, not a laptop and high performance. Can anyone help me find a way to keep it from automatically shutting down?

Thank you for posting on the HP Support Community.
Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
- Are you getting any error regarding battery?
- Have you made any hardware/software changes?
- Have you tried any troubleshooting steps?
While you respond to that, let's try these steps:
BIOS Defaults:
1) Shutdown the computer.
2) Turn the computer back on again and repeatedly tap on the ESC until a Startup menu appears.
3) Press F10 once for BIOS.
4) Press F9 for BIOS defaults.
5) Press F10 to save and exit. If the issue persists continue next step
Perform Windows Update and HP Support Assistant:
To check for updates now, select the Start button, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
Install updates from HP Support Assistant: Go to Download HP Support Assistant to install the tool.
- To open HP Support Assistant, double-click the HP Support Assistant icon
.
- Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.
- Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.
- Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.
- Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.
- Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Thanks Echo_Lake for the suggestions. I tried resetting the BIOS to defaults to no affect. The only message that I get is that my battery is running low and that I should turn off my computer. I've tried the HP troubleshooter with out any success on this specific issue. I know that HP no longer supports this machine (12/31/18), but don't want to go releace it just becuase of this if I can help it. I also have my machine on auto update, and have made sure that the maintenance releases are up to date.
Any other suggestions?
Your help is appreciated.
