Hey HP Community,
I tried booting up my HP desktop that hasn't been powered on in over two years. At first, I got the dreaded network boot, followed by:
"Exiting Intel PXE ROM"
"Operating System Not Found"
At this point, I was already losing hope. I thought booting into Windows PE might help, but it wouldn’t even load. ☠ Then things got worse:
BIOS initially said "Entering", but then dropped "BIOS is missing/corrupted. Please reinstall BIOS."
Later, I got "Could not display Network Boot. Please replace the motherboard or send the display adapter to a repair shop."
Then, out of nowhere, only "NETWORK_BOOT_SCREEN.GIF" appeared!
And now, every startup just shows "Fatal Error: BIOS is missing. System Halted!"
At this point, I desperately need help bringing this legendary PC back to life! 😆 If anyone has troubleshooting steps, recovery methods, or knows how to reinstall BIOS properly, please let me know.
Thanks in advance! 🚀🔧

@iaoiaiiao, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding BIOS and Boot Issues!
We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.
Check Connections:
- Ensure all internal cables and components are securely connected.
- Check if the hard drive is properly connected, as a loose cable can result in "Operating System Not Found."
Access BIOS Menu:
- Restart your computer and press F10 (or Esc then F9 for boot menu) repeatedly as soon as it powers up. This should take you to the BIOS setup utility.
Restore BIOS Defaults:
- If you can access the BIOS setup utility, try restoring factory defaults:
- In the BIOS menu, locate the option to "Restore Factory Defaults" and select it.
Try a Hard Reset:
- Power down the PC, disconnect the power cable, and press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
Reflash BIOS:
- Caution: Proceed only if you're comfortable. An incorrect BIOS update can further damage your system.
- Visit HP’s support website, download the latest BIOS update for your model, and follow the instructions to create a BIOS recovery USB drive.
Check Boot Sequence:
- Ensure that the boot sequence prioritizes the hard drive over the network boot option.
- This can be changed in the BIOS setup utility under “Boot Order.”
Hardware Diagnostics:
- If your PC supports HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, run diagnostics to check your hardware (memory, hard drive).
Hope this helps!
Take care, and have an amazing day!
