Hello, I want to use 5TB hard drive as boot drive (C:\) with GPT type partition for Windows 10 x64 Pro, but the provided BIOS does not allow me to load windows on GPT Type DISK even if I boot up this desktop in UEFI mode.

Can some one please tell me how to load Windows 10 X64 Pro on GPT type Hard Disk from scratch (Brand New Installation)?  My System PC BIOS is from 6/2013 and I don't see any newer BIOS with required Fix...!

Thanks,

PraSmit

Hello Riddle,

Thank you for your quick and prompt response here.  Sorry for little late reply by me.

Here what I did to solve this mine unique problem.  After spending hours in online research, finally I was succssful in getting the windows 10 on 5TB of GPT HD

(1) Booted HP Envy 700-230qe CTO Desktop in Legacy BIOS, and formatted 5TB as MBR (Only 2TB was reconized in MBR, fyi).....................and Loaded Windows 10 Pro x64 by using Windows DVD (Under Legacy BIOS, I was able to get USB Drives and USB CD/DVD as Bootble options, which are not there under UEFI Boot.

(2) After Successful installation of Windows 10, I used AMOEI Partition Assistant, and converted my MBR HD in to GPT Type HD, and Luckily I did not lose any data or windows system, and then shut of the PC

(3) Changed Legacy BIOS to UEFI, and rebooted the PC, and luckinly this time, the GPT converted HD got recognized with installed WIndows 10 , and PC got started after few minutes of setting.

(4) Once, I was in WIndows 10 enviroment, I was able to use the remaining 3TB of space as other partition, which I formatted using Windows Standard Feature of Disk Management.  Am so happy that I was able to find the practical solution so that I am able to use full 5TB along with Secure Boot for enhanced safety of my PC.

Thank you for joining HP Forums.
I'll be glad to help you 🙂

As I understand you want to use 5TB hard drive as boot with GPT for windows 10 pro,

I took some time off and did some research about your concern, this is what I've found,
Your product specifications with HP only support windows 8 or 8.1 pro via HP OEM:

If you wish to proceed beyond the OEM and install an ISO,

That would be at your own discretion, here's more information about the GPT:

According to the official Microsoft documentation http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/hardware/gg463525.aspx, all its OSs starting from Windows Server 2003 SP1 support GPT volumes as the data disks. However, only 64-bit Windows versions installed on the UEFI motherboards are able to boot from a GPT volume.

Let’s note an important fact that you always have to keep in mind: it is possible to boot Windows x64 from a GPT disk only in the UEFI-based system.

Thus, if your PC is BIOS-based and it’s necessary that it has a GPT disk
