HP EX920
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hello.

Will it boot with Win7?

WIll it work with a M.2 to PCI-e adaptor?

Will it work with a X58 chipset with the bios on AHCI mode ?

Thank you.

Hi,

Windows 7 (W7) was compiled before NVME existed.

Samsung provides W7 NVME drivers for their NVME drives.

But you have to add the Samsung NVME driver to the Windows 7 setup media because W7 installation media will not see the drive.

You could install a Samsung NVME drive as a data drive and and install the Samsung NVME driver.

Your PC will never boot to the NVME drive if you don't have an M.2 socket on the motherboard. It sounds like you don't have a M.2 socket on the MB if you are looking at a NVME/PCIe adapter.

Sorry

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

The EX920 is an M.2 NVME drive.

Windows 7 does not have native NVME driver support on the Windows installation media.

This device may work using a PCIe adapter as a data drive but will not be bootable if you need a PCIe adapter to install this drive on your motherboard.

HP would also have to provide a Windows 7 NVME driver to use this drive a s a data drive on an existing Windows 7 (W7) installation. I don't think Microsoft provides a W7 NVME driver if you use the drive as a data drive.

Thank you.

Do you know if other M.2 PCI-e drives will work with Win7.

It seems that MS has released some NVMe drive to Win7, but how many drives will work?

It seems that no one tried with this one or if did it did not work, a confirmation of a trial and fail would be nice.

Thank you.
