Hi:
What drivers didn't work?
Please post the hardware ID's for the devices that need drivers.
https://www.howtogeek.com/193798/how-to-find-drivers-for-unknown-devices-in-the-device-manager/
Read this info on how to get Windows Update to work on W7...It worked for me.

Due to the location we cannot use workarounds. if the hardware is not supported by windows 7 we cant use it 😞
Here is the missing driver
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1577&SUBSYS_15771022&REV_00
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1577&SUBSYS_15771022
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1577&CC_080600
PCI\VEN_1022&DEV_1577&CC_0806

Hi:
Here is the driver you need for the ID you posted...I think you will have to manually install the driver because I don't see any exe file within the driver folder.
TITLE: AMD IOMMU Driver for Enterprise and AIO systems
VERSION: 1.0.3.0022 REV: A PASS: 1
DESCRIPTION:
This INF file removes an unresolved hardware detection. There is no driver
associated with this INF file. This package provides the original driver version
that shipped with the initial software image system.

As far as the link I posted, there are no workarounds that would require non-standard Microsoft downloads.
Read the info...
Basically, you have to install a couple of prerequisite KB#### files, and you should be good to go.

I shall give the driver issue ago tomorrow and let you know how it goes.
still confused as to the unsupported hadware window that pops up.
I havent seen any mention of the post you shared being related to this issue. the fix they are talking about we have used with our windows 7 machines on old hardware strugging to update. We also use wsus and are behind a pretty hefty proxy connection
This seems new and reading the links i shared in my inital post i am concerned that there is a bigger underlying issue.
I have also raised a question here https://community.amd.com/thread/216890
Which also concerns me the fact that micrsoft have stated that they will be EXTENDING support for these processors untill Jan 2020

I guess I misunderstood you.
You posted that "Windows Update does now not work."
If you got a message from Microsoft that states that windows update will not work due to their not supporting the new platforms, then I can't help you with that.
The link I posted pertains to getting Windows Update to work on PC's where it just keeps searching for updates.
I don't think there is anything you can do to get the updates to work when you get that message.
Microsoft doesn't want anyone running anything but W10 on these new platforms.
