I'm trying to reset a corrupted bios on an hp desktop PC that no longer has the storage (which apparently stores a backup of the previous bios). I plan to get another drive with windows installed but I don't want to do that until I know I can fix this. Does anyone know of a way to reset the bios without the original drive? Is there some sort of flashback feature that I can leverage with a USB with the current version of the bios for that PC?
If I were able to get a hold of the previous drive and should it not have been wiped, is there a chance that the motherboard could pull a previous bios version from the storage?
Note: On boot I get 8 beeps. It then restarts and loops 2 long beeps and 2 short beeps.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,

The beep codes of 2 short and 2 long are bios problems.
Was there a change in the beep codes after the new flash?
If interested you might try the following
Read this walkthrough on flashing a bios. It is another OEM but it lists the tools needed
It shows a connection to a motherboard header but the device can optionally attach to the top of the bad bios.
This shows the programming connecting to the chip
list of SPI headers, the HP spi header is usually the same as the MSI. See if you have that SPI header else you will need to connect to the chip
https://elmorlabs.com/forum/topic/spi-header-pinouts
Google list of SPI images some are HP
typical programming kit for bios is usually under $30

Did you try the bios recovery USB ?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3S3KgcT-Ao&t=3s
The latest bios for your system is here
if booting the flash SUB does not work then copy
0844C.bin and 0844C.sig into the root of the flash drive
and then try the Windows key plus the "B". Hopefully your system will look in the USB and not the hard drive.
Please post back to tell us which procedure worked, if any.

Great thoughts here! I just have a quick question. I know that on most new motherboards, there's a port specifically designed for bios flashing. Do you happen to know if there is a specific port I should put the jump drive into?
I'll give this a try and let you know if it works.
Thanks,

Any USB port connected to the motherboard (instead of an adapter card) should be OK.
[edit] If you look at your motherboard and see HP part number
941802-601 "or -101"
That motherboard goes for about USD $150 on ebay. Hopefully you can get the bios back working.

I gave it a try. I get the 8 beeps on startup but I don't get the 2 long and 2 short after it restarts but it is thrown into a boot loop. I'm guessing that this spells the end of the mobo but I wanted to see if you have any other ideas.
Thanks again for the help!

Another update here, I got the bios to flash and it says that it verified correctly however, upon finishing the verification, it restarts. With the restart, it just starts beeping again and goes into a boot loop with it trying to install the bios again every so often. Any thoughts?

Yuk!
That bios was dated May 2023. Maybe not much testing was done before it was released. Alternately there is a hardware problem.
All I can think of is to try an older bios. Pick one of the older ones.

Ya..... I was pretty excited when I actually got it to output to a display finally and made the bios update until it started beeping again. I looked at that link and unfortunately, the older revisions don't appear to have a download by them. Do you know of any other place where I could find the old bios's for download?

They are way at the bottom but I suspect there is hardware damage of some type to motherboard.
Good luck!

Thanks a bunch! You're awesome! Unfortunately none of that worked. It just did the same thing where it would install the new bios but beep upon restart. Do you feel like this could be a bios chip problem? Or a short somewhere else on the board? I looked up the bios chip and they are really inexpensive. Since the board is probably bricked anyways I was thinking of attempting to replace the bios chip. Do you know if the bios has to be preinstalled on the new chip?
Thanks again!
