Is that the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics ?

Even if the system is particularly under load from running a lot of applications, the fan on this PC must be really quiet, as I cannot tell even when it is under stress.  Therefore, without knowing how to monitor it, without knowing what utility to use, I am not sure, I have no way of gauging or ascertaining.

Would installing sp172007 instead (the previous version) be an option (to be on the safe side) ?

You will have to give me time (sometime within the next couple of days), I am not sure yet when I will get the opportunity to run the F2 test.  I did try looking in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics Windows, but I could not see anything there.

Thank you anyway, I am not sure yet when I will get chance to get back to you.  Please bear with me.

Hi @Mrmatt1,

Thanks for your response and Based on what you have described, the absence of an HP Fan Control Service in Windows is not a fault. On many HP systems, fan operation is controlled automatically by the BIOS and thermal management system, so you will not see a separate fan service listed in Services.

With regards to your question :

1. Is the F2 test the UEFI Hardware Diagnostics? - Yes. The Fan Test is available in HP PC Hardware Diagnostics UEFI, which is accessed by pressing F2 during startup. If the test passes, the cooling fan is functioning correctly.

2.Could you confirm which SoftPaq is this (sp172007)?

Reverting to an older version is not recommended.

3. What if the fan is very quiet?

Modern HP systems often use very quiet cooling fans. It is normal not to hear the fan during light or moderate workloads. A quiet fan does not automatically indicate a problem.

There is no indication of an immediate hardware failure based on the information provided. Kindly run the F2 Fan Test when convenient and share the results. Once we know whether the test passes or fails, we can determine if any further action is required.

I hope this helps.

Thank you for your replies.

At some point (over the next few days when I get chance), I wil look at doing the UEFI F2 tests.

I will not revert to the sp172007 update then.

Hi @Mrmatt1,

Thank you for the update and for taking the time to let us know. I completely understand, and I appreciate your willingness to perform the HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics when your schedule allows.

It's good to hear that the information provided has helped clarify your concerns regarding the fan behaviour and the absence of a separate HP Fan Control Service.

Whenever you have an opportunity to run the F2 Fan Test, kindly share the results with us. If the test passes, it will help confirm that the cooling fan is operating as designed. If any issues are detected, we will be happy to guide you through the next appropriate steps.

Thank you once again for your patience and cooperation throughout the troubleshooting process.

Thanks.

(Actually, I was never anywhere near 'awesome'; that bears out the need for me to reach out to this community in the first place.....  We'll have to wait and see how things go.)

Bye for now.
