HP Recommended

The monitor I am using doesn't recognize the display settings I have set. I've put it as the recommended resolution (1440 x 900 - 60Hz) yet it says in the information tab in the monitor menu that it's 1920 x 1080 - 60Hz. Why is this happening? It was working fine beforehand at that resolution before a game somehow messed it up (mind you that the game wasn't from a random untrustworthy page on the internet). Now it's sleeping constantly, and I've tried playing with the settings but nothing's changed.
