OMEN 16 inch Slim Gaming Laptop PC 16-an0000 (A57XKAV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I've recently (around three-four months ago) acquired my new laptop (OMEN SLIM Laptop 16-an0009ns). The laptop is perfect but it keeps showing me a blue screen (Driver Power State Failure 0x9f), some times multiple times a day. Most of the time it happens when watching videos or studying, esentially when I am not doing anything with the computer, it will just randomly crash. The laptop isn't put under any stress whatsoever aside from ocasionally very light CAD models mostly during short periods of time (never crashed when using CAD software). At first I thought it was the BIOS which I updated to (F.13) when I bought it but still crashed, then I did a system check with no apparent problems and now I find myself not knowing why it happens and how to solve it.

Hi @Tinnefeld

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I acknowledge the concern you are facing with your OMEN Slim Laptop showing the “Driver Power State Failure (0x9f)” blue screen. It is positive that you have already updated the BIOS and performed system checks. Since the issue persists, let us proceed with recommended steps.

Update Drivers via HP App

  • Open the HP App on your laptop.
  • Go to My Devices > Updates.
  • Install all available updates, especially chipset, graphics, and network drivers.
  • This ensures compatibility and stability with the latest BIOS.

Run Diagnose & Fix

  • In the HP App, select your OMEN Slim Laptop.
  • Choose Troubleshooting > Diagnose & Fix.
  • Allow the tool to scan and automatically apply fixes for driver or power-related issues.

Check Power Settings

  • Open Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select Balanced (recommended).
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set it to Off.
  • This prevents devices from entering a low-power state that may trigger the error.

Perform HP Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI)

  • Restart your laptop and press Esc repeatedly, then F2.
  • Run System Tests > Extensive Test to check hardware stability.
  • This will confirm if the issue is driver-related or hardware-related.

For reference, here is the official HP guide to run diagnostics:
HP PCs - Testing for hardware failures

These steps are specific and accurate to address the driver power state failure. Once completed, observe if the crashes reduce during idle or light usage. If the issue continues, we can proceed with further steps.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Dear Hawks_Eye,

Thank you very much for your kind reply! I had already seen most of the solutions in another forum on the page and have already done them but I did them again (just in case). And the ones that I hadn't done yet too. Since I posted the problem it hasn't happened again (lucky me), hopefully it stays this way... I will be writing again if the problem persists, if not, I'll click the accept as solution box.

Kind Regards,

Tinnefeld

Hi again,

Unfortunately it happened, again. I took a look into microsoft's reliability monitor and it seems that every time the laptop's phone link is disconnected from my phone (Iphone 13) it sort of has a domino effect ending with a blue screen. Could it be the possible cause? If any info or screenshot from the reliability monitor is needed let me know.
