Hi @KINOU64,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel how deeply frustrating this BIOS issue must be, especially when your HP Pavilion laptop refuses to enter BIOS and throws the error: “Not enough space in runtime area, SMBIOS data will not be available.” Even worse, you're stuck with a dark blue screen and no access to recovery options. Let's walk through the steps to help you recover your BIOS and get your system back.

Recommended Steps to Fix BIOS Runtime Area Error

1. Perform a CMOS Reset

This clears corrupted BIOS settings:

  • Disconnect power and battery (if removable).
  • Press and hold the power button for 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power and try booting again.

2. Try BIOS Recovery

Use HP’s built-in recovery method:

  • With the laptop off, press and hold Windows + B (or Windows + V).
  • While holding the keys, press and hold the power button for 2–3 seconds.
  • Release all keys and wait up to 40 seconds.
  • If successful, the BIOS recovery screen should appear.

3. Download and Install the Correct BIOS

If recovery fails, you’ll need to manually update the BIOS using another PC.

⚠️ Important: Only install BIOS updates designed for your specific model. Installing the wrong version can permanently damage your system.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
