Hi @gbsavan,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your PC!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If you need to reset the PIN and update the BIOS on your HP Pavilion, follow these instructions for recovering the BIOS:

Resetting the Embedded Controller

  1. Turn off the computer and disconnect the power cord for 5 seconds.
  2. Connect the power cord to the computer and press the power button to turn on the computer.

Resetting the CMOS

  1. Turn off the computer, and disconnect the AC adapter.
  2. Press the power button ten times to fully discharge electricity.
  3. Open the computer to access the system board.
  4. Remove or disconnect the CMOS battery from the system board.
  5. Confirm that all sources of electricity are removed.
  6. Press the power button for a minimum of 60 seconds to drain all power.
  7. Reconnect or reinstall the CMOS battery and reassemble the computer.
  8. Reconnect the AC adapter to the computer.
  9. Press and hold the power button for 20 seconds.
  10. Release the power button and the system boots.

A confirmation message will display that the CMOS is reset.

Recovering the BIOS

If your computer BIOS still does not reset, use one of the following methods to recover it:

Recover the BIOS using a Key Press Combination

  1. Turn off the computer.
  2. Press and hold the Windows + b keys.
  3. Press and hold the power button for 2 to 3 seconds.
  4. Release the power button but continue pressing the Windows + b keys.

If successful, a BIOS update screen will display, and the BIOS update process will begin automatically.
