Good morning

Somehow this Old Codger cannot get back into my original question on this site. probably I pressed the wrong button.

I have it turns out a 'Boot Issue' with my HP Desktop which is become hard to resolve because I cannot remember my Administrator Password which I cannot remember setting one up, continuing with this problem

I have removed the Hard Drive and connected to a USB HDD External Box which read the H/D   as follows ;

Toshiba Jun-2018 Capacity : 2.0TB

LBA: 3,907,029,168 Sectors   -   CHS: 1 6383/ 16/63

Reading the H/D Drive as follows in Properties

Recovery / Type Local Disk / File System / NTFS

Used Space: 16,259,334,144 Bytes 15.1GB

Free Space:     2,108,567,552 Bytes  1.96GB

Capacity:        18,367,901,696 Bytes 17.1GB

When I press its location on (G) it says

Recovery. Date modified. 07/08/2018  11.00. File Folder when I click Recovery it says This folder is empty.

Does all this make sense?

Kind regards

Robert

The problem was in the HDD as it was not being recognised which is so disappointing.

A new HDD had to be fitted which was Crucial BX500 - 240GB

The one fitted to the computer was 2.0TB which has I believe was faulty from the point of manufacture.

I had problems the first few days after purchase then it was repaired/returned and then it was stored for a couple of years with other electrical goods due to my ill health and moving.

I thank you for your help plus Paul in helping with this problem which is now resolved.

Kind regards

Robert

Hello
this score is of no use to you
the recovery partition, is used to reinstall the computer, in factory configuration
I don't quite understand what is described, but

"Used Space: 16,259,334,144 Bytes 15.1GB

Free Space: 2,108,567,552 Bytes 1.96GB

Capacity: 18,367,901,696 Bytes 17.1GB "

this seems quite normal
"This folder is empty."
on the other hand, this seems less so
but empty or not, it will not serve you more than that, if you can not restart the computer

Hello and thank you

I was wondering what the recovery name came from, was the Recovery CD saved onto the HDD?

I would like to use the HDD on another computer if I could eventually

Regards

Most hp computers have a spare partition, which allows you to reinstall the factory computer.
From this partition the user can normally create the recovery kit

you will be able to use the HDD, with another computer, but probably not the operating system on it, and it will not be possible to use the partition to reinstall on another computer
You can use it if you reinstall a Windows version on it with license, or as a second HDD drive to store data
it will therefore have to be formatted first!

Good afternoon

Many thanks for your comments which has given me a better concept of a HDD

I have this afternoon escaped from the Blue Administrator Password.

I have HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI on my screen which is a big change, it says

Version 1.24.0.0 - BIOS

I have run Memory Test and Hard Drive Check and all OK and when I press Exit and leave I get a blue screen saying

Boot Device Not Found -

Please install an operating system on your hard disk -

Hard Disk - (3FO)

F2 - System Diagnostics

For more info www.hp.com/go/techcenter/startup

This is as far as I have got at this moment and I will be back online later

Many thanks

Robert

So you have to replace the hdd in his computer?
You can go to the bios (type f10 several times when starting the computer)

I typed in F10 several times but it brought me back to

Boot Device-Blue Screen of options including F2 - system Diagnostics

Thank you

Robert

HP Recommended

try F11

the computer must be stopped, turned off
, press the start button, and immediately type f11 until the tool opens, if it works, as indicated in the links
do you have access to the recovery menu, as mounted in the links

https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-pavilion-desktop-pc-590-p0000a/19390500/document/c04742289

Use reset through Windows Recovery Environment if Windows 10 does not start correctly. If Windows 10 loads correctly, go to the section titled Perform a Windows 10 system reset in Windows in this document.

Use one of the following methods to open Windows Recovery Environment:
  • Restart your computer and immediately press the F11 key repeatedly. The Choose an option screen opens.

It is still coming back to the same screen Admin Password / Boot Device not found

I have tried both suggestions and wish I could report better success but the tool fails to open

As long as the password problem is not resolved, difficult to move forward
but here we do not really know if it is a bios password, or a windows user ??
