Ubuntu LTS

I'm installing Ubuntu 20.04 on a 1TB Sandisk G-Drive (connected by USB). After extensive troubleshooting (with help from the ubuntu community) I discovered that booting fails unless I install to a small partition. I've verified everything works if I install to the SSD limited to a 32GB partition with the rest left as unallocated space. I don't yet know how much higher I can go before booting starts to fail.

I'm wondering if this is a known issue with my model (P6520Y), i.e. boot problems when booting from 1TB SSD external drive. Maybe it is a bug that was fixed an a newer version of the BIOS. My current BIOS version is 6.03.

Please let me know how I might be able to update my BIOS using the HP website only. I've noticed a support for my model desktop has been removed.
