My PC won't update to Win ver 1809.  I check the Windows Update utility daily but wiv ver 1809 is not listided as available for download.  I am currently using win ver 1803.  I have run the windows update troubleshooter and rebooted many times but still cannot get udate 1809.

Hi:

Lots of us out there are not getting the update automatically.

You can always get the update right away by clicking on the blue Update Now button at the link below...

Thanks, I'm trying that now.  Hope it works.

You're very welcome.

You should be fine.

Only one of my 5 PC's got the 1809 update from Windows Update and it wasn't even my newest PC.

It must be a completely random thing as to how Microsoft pushes those updates out automatically.

Hi Paul,

How is 1809 running on your PC?

I backed up 1803 using Macrium Reflect free. Now running 1809 on one PC.

I find 1809 to be a little buggy. Phantom notifications, problems with USB type C drives. Had to reinstall some software.

I think 1809 needs more work. I would not install 1809 without backing up 1803 in case a rollback from 1809 to 1803 fails.

Regards

Hi:

The only issue I had with 1809 was on one ancient HP laptop I have from 2007 where now when the display shuts off, I have to power down the PC with the power button because pressing any key wakes up the display but it is just blank.

The other 4 I have are running fine with it, and I don't use the old laptop but once a month to do the 'Patch Tuesday' updates, so the problem is not a show-stopper for me on that one.

I gave away an even older HP laptop from 2006 that ran fine on 1803 but when I tried to upgrade it to 1809, it wouldn't.

1809 would get to a point where a restart was required and it quit.

So, I gave it away with 1803 on it.

I thought the 1809 update was going great until about halfway through when I got a "Cannot complete the update" message.  Error code 0xc00000fd. (this error code has multiple meanings) I tried this three times with the same result.  I ran the update troubleshooter each time and it seemed to fix three problems.  One issue was a corrupt update database.  I will try the media creation tool next and make an update CD to see if that works.  After that, I'll try the Win 10 repair utility.
