HP SK-2028 Keyboard DRIVER not starting. HP wired usb keyboard wont work.

HP Pavilion 570-p059 desktop pc with an HP USB multimedia keyboard. HP wired keyboard model SK-2028

Driver wont start for USB2 wired keyboard for my HP pavilion desktop 64but AMD12 PC-570-p0xx windows10 updated to Dec09 2018. I have USB2 and USB3 ports. The issue is NOT the keyboard can run the HP keyboard test on start up so keyboard physically works and USB connection works.

I have run through various tests sfc/scannow, DISM check health, devmgmt.msc (hardware changes, uninstalling root hubs, keyboard drivers, disallowing pc to turn off usb power, and reinstalling) The pc would reinstall drivers and say keyboard available but it would not work.  In both device manager and control panel devices would show that there is an issue to be troubleshooted. Changing ports does not solve the issue.

In device manager the drivers in Human Interface Devices, USB input device would show error message that driver did not start. This seems to be the core issue. The drivers are for HID compliant devices. There are 3 listed in property for 'USB input device'  hidclass.sys hidparse.sys hidusb.sys Seem to have been created/modified Sept 15 2018. Through an update? Cannot be rolled back. Changing ports and reinstalling did not solve the issue.

1) Windows Update: Feature update windows 10 version 1809 installed Dec 09 2018.

3) Driver Error Code: code 10 "A non constant main item was declaired without a corresponding usage" for human interface device, usb input device. drivers hidclass.sys hidparse.sys hidusb.sys version 10.1.17763.1 win build 160101.0800

Awesome job on diagnosing the issue correctly and performing smart troubleshooting before posting your question on HP forums. Kudos to you on that score. 

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details.

• When was the last time the keyboard was working fine?
• Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?

While you respond to that, I recommend you download and install the keyboard driver from the below link and check whether the issue is resolved.

If you continue facing the issue, I recommend you download and install HP support assistant from the below link and install all the updates.

Here is how it is done.

1. Click My devices in the top menu, and then click Updates in the My PC or My notebook pane.

   

2. Click Check for updates and messages to scan for new updates.

   

3. Review the list of updates. Updates with a yellow information icon are recommended. Updates with a blue information icon are optional.

4. Click the update name for a description, version number, and file size.

5. Select the box next to any updates you want to install, and then click Download and install.

6. Perform any other update management actions as needed.

   • Postpone an update: Click Remind me, and then select a time preference.

   • Delete an available update: Click the Delete icon  to remove the update from the list and record it in the action log.

   • Review updates status: Click Action log below the list to view installed, postponed, or deleted updates.

Hi,

I have used HP support assistant on this keyboard issue and the virtual assistant has been no help. I regularly update through HP support assistant and the pc is up to date as of December 15.

I downloaded and installed sp73272 and the program was installed in folder swsetup. But no keyboard drivers seem to be installed. Do I have to do this manually?

There did not seem to be a setup.exe within the package?  I ran HPSlimKB.exe went through the installation process. Not sure if any drivers were installed.

I'm still working on this keyboard not working.

Question: I updated to  'HP System Event Utility' sp91504 version 1.40 thru HP support assistant Nov 24. Is there a chance that this program is affecting my keyboard. I noticed on the info blurb that it was for 'notebooks' I am using a desktop.

Can the program be safely unistalled? And how?
