Hi, I'd been having nothing but problems the past year or so with my 15-year old HP Photosmart C3100 All-in-One series printer.  I think it's just too old for my 2-year old computer.  It also appears this old printer is broken with its mechanism.  

When I'd been having problems, I came onto this Support Forum and was advised to install HP Scan Extended which I did but that didn't help at all.

So....today I bought a new HP Desk Jet 2755e printer.  Before I hook up this new printer, should in UNINSTALL the HP Scan Extended?  Thanks so much for any help someone can give me.

Yes, you can uninstall the HP Scan Extended software.

You won't need HPSE - the Full Feature Software / full driver software includes HP Scan (a newer version).

Uninstall the HPSE from Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features

Wait a minute - after the software is uninstalled, Restart the computer and log in.

What if you miss HPSE?

What if it really does have something you want that you don't have in the new HP Scan?

It won't hurt to install HPSE after your printer software has been installed.

The "call" to the HPSE is a separate folder location and the two HP scan programs should not "trip over each other".

Thanks so  much Dragon-Fur, I uninstalled the HP Scan Extended successfully.

I did the HP installation process on my new HP 2755e Printer half an hour ago.  It all processed & installed perfectly.

But now when I print a copy there is nothing showing on the copy paper, it's just blank.  Do you know what I'm doing wrong?  I'd sure appreciate your help and anyone else's.

Are you actually using Copy on the printer

If yes, use this guide:

Make copies with an HP printer

 

Note that this printer lacks a control / display panel - Copy is very basic.

 

If you need to make changes to paper / size / other settings, it is necessary to Scan from the printer software / printer application on your computer.

When you installed the printer software, did you happen to print a test file (last part of the installation)?

That is, can the printer print at all?

 

Is the printer aware of the paper loaded in the tray (paper size and type)?

Are the Printing Preferences - Shortcut and options selected?

Thanks so  much Dragon-Fur for your detailed post and for tying to help me.  I'd meant to say that I only use my printer to print and NOT to make copies.  Yes, the new printer is indeed printing, I printed off a Printer Information Page and an Alignment Required For Best Print Quality page, they printed perfectly.  

In my Printer Settings on my HP computer it shows the following ~ Driver is unavailable ~ HP Smart Printing Error ~ App available for this Device, This Device is working properly.  

Could you please tell me exactly what I need to do to print something like an email.  Here's what I do ~ I call up the email and click print at the top of the page.  But nothing happens, it just goes to my print queue so I cancel it from the print queue.  

Do I have to access something on my apps?  On my Printer Information Page is says my printer is connected to the wireless network, signal strength is excellent, and then says the printer is not connect to the internet.  

I'm totally baffled, can you tell what I'm doing wrong?  Thanks so much.

I am sorry you are unable to uninstall > clear > install the printer software.

 

There are generally solutions to the "driver unavailable" issue -

It sounds like the existing printer software is perhaps stuck and needs a push to uninstall it completely to make room for a fresh installation.

Short version - Reinstall

Uninstall the existing Full Feature Software / full driver printer software

Restart the computer and log in

Check for the printer in all the places where it might not have been removed - Devices and Printers, for example.

If you find the printer still listed, Right-Click and Remove the entry.

Restart the computer and log in.

Install a fresh copy of the full driver printer software

Restart the compute and log in
