Hi @TeresaM19,

Thank you for the update and for sharing your observations. Since the issue doesn’t occur on your laptop, it does suggest that the behavior may have been introduced after the desktop repair, as you mentioned.

At this stage, if the taskbar badge is only a visual nuisance and all functions are otherwise working normally, it’s safe to simply hide or unpin the icon as you’ve done. However, if you’d like us to look deeper, the next step would be to:

Completely uninstall HP Support Assistant and HP Support Solutions Framework from your desktop.

Restart the system.

Download and install the latest version of HP Support Assistant fresh from the official HP site.

This will ensure any corrupted settings from the repair are cleared out.

If you prefer not to do this right away, that’s perfectly fine too, the workaround you’ve applied won’t affect your system’s performance.

We appreciate your patience and detailed feedback. Please let us know if you’d like to continue troubleshooting or if you’re comfortable leaving it as is.

I'm glad I could help! 😊 If this resolved your issue, please mark it as "Accepted Solution" and click "Yes" on "Was this reply helpful?" Your feedback not only keeps us going but also helps others find the solution faster! 👍

Take care and have an amazing day ahead! 🚀

Best regards,

Reinstalled the HP Support Assistant App

Restarted the computer, but as soon as I signed in the message icon returned.

Will leave my desktop computer as it is, without signing in and use the laptop for updates as well as the printer.

Many thanks for your help and advice.
