I figured it out!   The HPSysInfo.exe program pops up with an error stack backtrace and it states that

'cPC_DMIRD.dll'  dll library cannot be found.   I searched for that name on the machine where HPSysInfo.exe

is working and I found this DLL is in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\ directory.

I just copied this DLL into the same location on my problem machine and voila, HPSysInfo.exe works great

on the machine where it did not work.   It appears to be some native code to read the DMI / BIOS information.

Greetings,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

I am not sure if the following software is what you need.

You can download HP Support Assistant at the following (Link).

HP may also include a small piece of software which provides system information. You may have to reset the PC back to the factory operating system image to get this software.

HP system information can also be found in the BIOS.

Are you saying "HP Support Information" is a program that is installed with the "HP Support Assistant" program?

I have "HP Support Assistant" installed and it seems to be working. What isn't there is a little utility program that

simply pops up a window/dialog with 6 pieces of information.  The interesting one for me is the "Service ID" since

that appears to be the date the computer was "born".

I know the program exists because it is installed on my  other HP computer in

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Information\HPSysInfo.exe"

but unfortunately just copying this directory over to the computer where I want it to work does not

result in a functioning program (due to dot net assembly need to reside in GAC and strong name signed and all that).

Hi Niels,

No, I was not sure what you were looking for.

You can get similar information in the BIOS if you have accidentally removed this HP software.

Tap "ESC" at boot. Then select F10.

Look in "System Information" in the "File" menu.

You would have to do a HP recovery to get this HP Windows utility again.

This HP software is not critical.

The steps to get it back are not worth the effort.

Regards

Hi Niels,

Nice.

I would not have thought of doing that.

You solved the problem.
