Hi
I have had to remaster my HP Touchsmart 520 PC after a crash. The original discs did not work and after numerous attempts over 4 days I decided to use my microsoft system.
I have cleared the harddrive and installed widows 8 pro, updated to 8.1 and then 10, all has gone OK except I have no sound. I have tired all the usual remidies to no avail, I have no sound options when I try, the icon has a red x over it.
I have tried to install new drivers for the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC as this seems to be the problem, it fails every time. I have uninstalled and rebooted, still it does not work.
Any ideas??

Hi KrazyToad, thank you for your assistance, I have done all the suggested, no gain. I even have a full set of discs to restore the PC to its original state, after 3 to 4 hours it stops.
I have managed to fix though, using a different method. Cannot instal the required drivers, get the following error:
IDT High Definition Audio CODEC A divice attached to the system is not functioning
I found a second driver that installed and now I have sound, not conventional, but it has worked. I found it when I searched local to install a driver.
High Definition Audio Device - AVerMedia A859 Pure DVBT
Thanks for the assist,

Hi @oursteve
Welcome to HP Forums. This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips.
I understand that you have installed a Retail copy of Windows and now you are having issues with the Audio.
HP recommends using the Recovery Media for reformatting and resetting the computer to Factory Settings.
If you do not have one, you can order it from our Phone Support.
Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/
Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect
Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"
Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone number and phone number appears.
You can also try updating the Audio driver from the Device Manager.
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- In the list of devices, look for Audio and expand the list
- Right-click the device and select Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
I would also recommend completing all the Windows updates.
Select theStart buttonn, and then go to Settings > Update & security > Windows Update, and select Check for updates.
If the issue persists, it is recommended you use the HP Recovery Media
Thank you.
