Hp Victus 15
Ryzen 5 7535HS
Nvidia RTX 2050
8GB Ram (5.71 Usable)
Laptop works fine for a period of time and then for a short span it could restart 4-5 a times. this restarting happen without warning and it doesnt display the windows restarting logo just a black screen then the HP Victus boot up animation. ive gone through and updated everything i can think to update and ive checked the hardware and software multiple times to see if theres an error. about 2 weeks ago it got really bad and we restarting 8-9 times in a 30 minute window then it would be fine for hours. when this started happening i hard reset the pc and deleted all the files this seemed to work for a few weeks until it started doing it again. it only last for 30minutes to 1 hours and then it doesnt do it for a few hours. since there are no error logs or any noticeable change in how the laptop is running before it restarts i have no clue whats happening to it. so ive been watching specific things to see if its maybe a hardware issue instead. my first thought was the ram because having only 5.7Gb usable seemed super low to me but it seems that this is typical on a laptop. I still watched it for a week and it did seem to be running close to 80-95% most of the time when having 1 application open these were OperaGX the Omen panel and various games(Far cry 3&4, Faster Than Light, Prison Architect, This War of Mine) . the second thing i looked at was overheating but this didnt cross my mind at all even when playing a game on high settings the laptops components never got above 60-70 degrees Celsius so it doesnt seem like that. The third issue ive watched has been the power adapter this is the only thing that seems to consistently mess with the laptop when the power cord is plugged in this seems to slow the laptop down after 15-20 minutes of charging and seems to be the only thing causing it to randomly restart but without any error messages or codes im at a loss for what could be happening.

Hi @Alex1161,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The random restarting issue on your HP Victus 15, especially without error messages or logs, can indeed be challenging to diagnose, but you've already covered some important bases. Based on your observations and troubleshooting so far, I'll offer additional steps and explanations that might help you narrow down the cause.
RAM and Usability Issue
- Low usable RAM: You've mentioned 8GB RAM with 5.71GB usable. This is not uncommon if a portion of the RAM is reserved for hardware, such as integrated graphics. However, high RAM usage (80-95%) can cause instability, especially during gaming or multitasking. Consider upgrading the RAM to at least 16GB if possible, especially since modern games and apps can be quite resource-intensive.
- Check for Memory Leaks: Monitor memory usage over time using the Task Manager or a tool like HWMonitor to see if certain applications are consuming more memory than expected.
Power Supply and Adapter Issues
- Your observation about the restarts being triggered when the power adapter is plugged in is significant. It might suggest:
- Faulty adapter or charger: If the power adapter is not supplying consistent voltage, it could cause the system to crash or restart. Try using a different compatible charger to see if the issue persists.
- Power Mode Settings: Check your Power Plan settings. Make sure it’s set to "Balanced" or "High Performance" and ensure that there are no conflicting settings for plugged-in power use vs battery.
- Battery Issues: A faulty or degrading battery could cause power fluctuations. You can try using the laptop only on AC power without the battery (if removable), or check the battery health via the HP Support Assistant.
- Power Connector or Port: If the power port is loose or malfunctioning, it can cause intermittent power drops leading to restarts.
Thermal Throttling
- Although you mention your laptop stays within a safe temperature range (60-70°C), it’s still worth verifying that CPU or GPU throttling isn’t causing these restarts.
- Check Fan Behavior: Ensure the laptop's fans are functioning properly under load. Dust buildup or malfunctioning fans can lead to thermal issues.
- Use a cooling pad to rule out overheating during high performance gaming or multitasking sessions.
Software or Driver Conflicts
- Driver Conflicts: Even though you've updated drivers, sometimes an update can still introduce bugs. Try rolling back the GPU drivers to a previous version or uninstall the current ones with a tool like DDU (Display Driver Uninstaller) and reinstall from scratch.
- BIOS and Chipset Drivers: Ensure your BIOS and chipset drivers are up to date. You can get the latest versions from HP’s official support site.
- Windows Power Kernel Issue: Since you’ve already mentioned experiencing Kernel-Power Event ID 41 (Task 63), this could indicate a sudden loss of power, likely due to hardware (battery, adapter, or motherboard) or driver issues.
Hardware Diagnostics
- Run a full system diagnostic using the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics tool (press F2 during boot) to check for any potential hardware failures that might not show up in regular usage. Pay special attention to memory, battery, and power-related tests.

Event Viewer Logs
- You mentioned no error codes, but check the Windows Event Viewer again (under System logs) for Critical or Warning entries around the times of these restarts. You may still find patterns or hidden clues even if no direct error message appears.
Reset Power Settings
- Sometimes power management settings can cause unexpected behavior, especially with hybrid systems like gaming laptops. You can reset the power settings to default:
- Open Command Prompt (Admin).
- Type powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and press Enter.
- Restart your laptop and see if the issue persists.
Check the SSD Health
- Sometimes, issues with the SSD can cause unexpected reboots or shutdowns, especially if there’s a corrupted sector or firmware issues. Use CrystalDiskInfo or similar tools to check the health and status of your SSD.
Check for Malware
- Ensure that your system is not infected with malware. Malware or rogue software can cause instability and unexpected reboots. Run a deep scan with Windows Defender or a reputable anti-malware tool.
Next Steps
Given the intermittent nature of the problem, I would recommend focusing on the power-related components, especially the adapter and battery. It’s possible that there's an issue with power delivery when charging.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
