Recently on my laptop (Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0xxx), i had to go into a Teams meeting and I noticed that my camera wasn't being detected. I decided to check in device manager to see if it was disabled by chance, but when i opened device manager, I couldn't find a camera driver anywhere. Opening the camera app, I was greeted with this error code:
I searched on the internet and tried the following things:
Turn on camera access in Privacy settings
Tried adding drivers via Device manager, only to end up with zero options for camera drivers.
Scanning for hardware changes in device manager
Update my Windows to the latest version.
Visiting the HP Software and Drivers site, only to find no camera drivers available to download.
After some research I found out my laptop might use a camera driver called "HP Wide Vision HD Camera". But I have no clue where i can get this driver, since I cannot get it on the HP Driver and Software download site.
Does anyone know a possible solution to this? Any help is greatly appreciated. If you need any more information, do let me know.

Hi @TSpanjaards,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If no camera appears at all in Device Manager (even after scanning for hardware changes)on the Victus by HP Gaming Laptop 15-fa0xxx, and not even as an "Unknown Device", this generally means:
- The webcam hardware is not being recognized at the hardware/firmware level, or
- It is disabled in BIOS/UEFI, or
- The camera module is physically disconnected or defective.
These symptoms point to one of three likely causes: a hardware disconnection, firmware-level disablement, or a Windows-level detection issue.
1. Use HP Support Assistant (Recommended)
HP Support Assistant can detect and install missing drivers:
- Download it from HP Support Assistant | HP® Support.
- Install and run it.
- Check for updates and install any camera-related drivers.
2. Install Generic Microsoft Camera Driver
- Open Device Manager.
- Click Action > Add legacy hardware.
- Choose to install the hardware that I manually select.
- Scroll to Imaging Devices, then choose USB Video Device.
- Complete the wizard and restart.
3. BIOS Check
- Restart your laptop and enter BIOS (usually by pressing Esc or F10 at startup).
- Look for a camera toggle under Security or Advanced settings.
- Ensure the camera is enabled.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
