Hi @MTT007,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
If the HP Cloud Recovery Tool is not recognizing your USB stick, even though it's correctly formatted as FAT32 and appears in Disk Management, here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:
Ensure Compatibility with the Tool’s Requirements:
- The HP Cloud Recovery Tool requires a USB flash drive with a minimum of 32 GB capacity. Make sure that your USB drive meets this requirement.
Try Different USB Ports:
- You mentioned trying different ports, which is good practice. Ensure that you are using a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port directly on your PC rather than a hub.
Check File System Compatibility:
- Ensure your USB flash drive is formatted to NTFS if FAT32 does not work, as sometimes software may need a different format.
Run As Administrator:
- Execute the HP Cloud Recovery Tool as an Administrator to ensure it has the necessary permissions to recognize and use the USB drive.
- Right-click on the HP Cloud Recovery Tool icon and select "Run as administrator."
Check for Errors or Conflicts:
- Refresh disk management and make sure the drive is online and not in “Offline” mode.
Use an Alternative USB Flash Drive:
- You've already tried other USB flash drives, which is a good step. If possible, try another brand of USB stick or a completely new one to rule out compatibility issues.
Update or Reinstall HP Cloud Recovery Tool:
- Ensure that you are using the latest version of the HP Cloud Recovery Tool. Check for updates and reinstall the software if necessary.
Verify USB Storage Device in BIOS:
- Enter the BIOS settings on your PC and ensure that all USB settings are enabled.
External Software Conflicts:
- Sometimes, third-party applications or settings might block or interfere with the recognition of USB drives. Disable such software temporarily.
Download and Use Recovery Media on Another Computer:
- If none of the above steps work, try downloading and creating the recovery media using HP Consumer PCs - Using the HP Cloud Recovery Tool in Windows 11 and 10 | HP® Support on a different, compatible PC.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have an amazing day!
