HP Pavilion All-in-One PC 24-ca0000a (39X70AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi all

I have a Pavillion and it CONSTANTLY randomly shuts down saying there is a problem and it needs to restart. I have run every diagnostic tool I can through HP Assistant and it shows as passing every test. The fan vents are clear, the cables are all connected properly, the software and drivers are all up to date.

Anyone else have this issue and know how to resolve it please?

Thanks

Hi @IanR4

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thanks for sharing this—I'm really sorry you're dealing with such disruptive shutdowns. It’s incredibly frustrating when everything seems fine on the surface but the system keeps restarting unexpectedly.

Let’s walk through a few steps that can help stabilize your HP Pavilion All-in-One and restore reliability:

Step-by-Step Fix for Random Shutdowns on HP Pavilion 24-ca0000a

1. Run HP UEFI Hardware Diagnostics (Outside Windows) This deeper scan can catch issues missed by HP Assistant.

  • Turn off the PC.
  • Press the power button and immediately tap Esc repeatedly until the Startup Menu appears.
  • Press F2 to open HP PC Hardware Diagnostics.
  • Select System Tests > Extensive Test and let it run.

2. Check Windows Reliability Monitor This tool logs critical events and can reveal patterns.

  • Type Reliability Monitor in the Start menu and open it.
  • Look for red Xs around the time of shutdowns.
  • Click each event to view details—note any recurring faulting applications or hardware errors.

3. Disable Fast Startup Fast Startup can sometimes cause instability on All-in-One systems.

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup, then save changes.

4. Update BIOS and Chipset Drivers These updates can resolve timing and power management issues.

5. Check for Overheating or Power Supply Fluctuations Even with clear vents, internal sensors may detect heat spikes.

6. Scan for System File Corruption Corrupted files can trigger kernel-level crashes.

  • Open Command Prompt as Administrator.
  • Run: sfc /scannow
  • Let the scan complete and follow any repair instructions.

7. Review Event Viewer for Kernel-Power Errors These can indicate power delivery or driver conflicts.

  • Type Event Viewer in the Start menu.
  • Navigate to Windows Logs > System.
  • Look for Event ID 41 (Kernel-Power) and note any patterns or timestamps.

Please try these steps and observe whether the shutdowns stop or become less frequent. I truly hope this brings back the stability you deserve. If the issue continues, I’ll be here to help you dig deeper.
