HP MAY TAKE THIS DOWN, CUZ THEY PROBABLY DON'T WANT PEOPLE ADVISING THE FOLLOWING ON THEIR OWN FORUMS (so don't expect to find this later, if you read this!)

This is a question and an answer: I have tried unsubscribing from the MANY HP marketing emails I get. Business division, printer division, etc. all send me stuff and when I click "unsubscribe" it doesn't work. Please, someone at HP LISTEN! This is not good and I want to announce on your own forums some solutions if nothing is done to fix this. Such a basic thing that you can't get right says BAD THINGS ABOUT YOUR COMPANY. Anyone in HP that has the ability to fix this please contact me. I have already posted a request at your data privacy site (see below), but no response as yet.

So, here's the part for everyone reading this that has had the same experience, with my suggestions for FORCING HP to pay attention to this problem.

1. Go here and request they fix it (yes, it's a waste of our time, but do your due diligence): https://legalops.hp.com/portals/apps/61a910c70245286a3c002c0d/atoms/new?anon_lang=en&jumpid=in_R1192...

Since this problem has existed for years and HP may or may not have put resources towards fixing it, you may want to do the following steps IN ADDITION to the above HP resource, just to make sure they are on notice with various governmental agencies for the ongoing problem of consumers not being able to unsubscribe. This may change internal processes to NOT ALLOW THIS IN THE FUTURE. (Not hard to put this problem to bed, once and for all!)

**Edited**

HP peeps, if you're reading this: be compliant with what every other business is compliant with or suffer the consequences of losing business. This is bush-league stuff.

AndressaR,

If you see #1, that is what I have done already. NO ONE HAS RESPONDED. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE. Hence this post. If you can give me another link that, when I follow procedure something is actually done, I'd be happy to go there. You have a wonderfully detailed privacy section of your website that, unfortunately seems to be virtue signaling. It doesn't actually work. Once again, it seems that reporting HP to local consumer affairs, BBB, FTC, etc. is the only way to (eventually) get HP to pay attention. I will say, you have definitely lost customers over this practice, as it isn't just annoying, it's a time killer. (As is having you regurgitate links that I've already been to, so shame on you.) If you have ACTUAL help you can give me, please let me know.

Also, to those of you who are reading this, please note that my original post was edited. The edits are links to the US FTC website to lodge a complaint against HP for their practices (as well as the UK equivalent), and an example of your local consumer affairs and BBB. I assume they will remove this reply (or edit it), but I encourage everyone that has this issue (and we are legion), you will have better luck than these dumb replies that repeat "do what you already did, but we promise, THIS TIME IT WILL WORK!" If I can't unsubscribe, then I go to your privacy website and request removal to no effect, what else am I supposed to do? Tie up HP resources like they tie up ours with this mess.

#1 seems to have had an effect. I just received an email from HP legalops stating I had been removed from all email marketing. We will see if this actually takes place. I will be posting elsewhere on the web all of the information that was erased above, so please check for it (it goes through how to REALLY complain since HP isn't listening). Again, I want to reiterate, HP expects you to just deal with their subscriptions rather than their unsubscribe links working. So, here's the shortcut (AndreesaR corrected the link, as my link in #1 is not correct):  https://www.hp.com/us-en/privacy/ww-privacy-form.html

Again, look for my posts elsewhere on the web for further instructions to influence HP to finally fix their dumb unsubscribe links.
