Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

HP won't download WIN10 BIOS recovery, but only the BIOS software for the downloading computer, Win7. Despite that I change the operating system I want to download, the download page insists on defaulting to the current computer running Win 7. When I change the choice to Win 10 64, for BIOS recovery, and also any other software, the downlaodable files are only for Win 7. Updating the page does nothing, as my choice of Win 10 is forgotten. Incredibly stupid.

You're very welcome.

Yes a new motherboard will most likely fix the problem, but if your PC came with W8/8.1, or W10, make sure you get a motherboard with the Windows product key in the BIOS.

In any event, be prepared for W10 to ask for activation, which you won't be able to do.

If it came with W7 you can use the W7 product key off the Microsoft W7 COA sticker on the case.

Hi:

HP seems to have an issue with the support page, but the drivers are for W10...

https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/swdetails/hp-z230-tower-workstation/5367825/swItemI...

There is a W10 BIOS update on the support page for the Z230.

If you click on the see full details on the BIOS update file, it lists all of the supported operating systems.

Next to the W7 operating system, listed there is a View All link to click on...

Thanks Paul, I appreciate your response. My BIOS appears dead. No screen appears so even if I had a UBB stick for a recovery it doesn't "see" it. This all occurred when attempting to encrypt my system. I was thinking of replacing the motherboard for about 25$ Ebay. Would that be a solution, in youir opinion> Thanks much.
