Hi,

This means your hard drive has failed or is failing and needs to be replaced. I would try to recover as many files as possible attaching it to another computer. You will need to replace the drive and reinstall Windows. Do you have the windows disk or usb drive?

If you need any further help please let me know,

David

Thank you very much, I am trying my best to recover as many files as I can , but the system is not booting up. I could only do back up while doing system recovery. Maybe if you could help me getting it through by way of connecting it to another computer. Again thank you very for your time.

That is a good idea, because even when you cannot "boot" from the disk-drive, that part of the disk-drive that contains your personal files may still be accessible.

Find a "spare" desktop computer.

Remove the disk-drive from your computer.

Attach your disk-drive as a "slave" disk-drive on the "spare" computer.

Boot into Windows.

Access your disk-drive, and drill-down into your 'Documents' folder.

Copy your files into a folder onto the "other" computer.

Hi Thorone,

You can take the hard drive out of your computer and place it inside another computer. You will need to attach the sata power and data cables. Insert the smaller data cable into one of the free sata ports on the motherboard of the other computer. Boot the computer into Windows, it should automatically recognise the disk (as "slave") since it will not be higher in boot order and give it a drive letter. If you can see the drive from folder My PC you will be able to transfer files from it to a different drive or external usb device. Goto user, your username and transfer your files from PC, you will need to be administrator on the the PC you are using and Windows might ask you verification with pop up to make sure you are administrator.

Now, if the drive is not recognized in this PC you can try to see if programs such as recuva or test disk are able to see the disk and try to recover files.

Let me know if you need further help or clarification,

David

Every now and then my HP Beats PC will fail to startup - I get a Hard Disk Error. Normally, after some number of tries, the machine does boot up and I'm able to run for a month or so or until I decide to power the machine off. Wehn I try to run the system diagnostics hard drive check I get the message SMART CHECK: NOT INSTALLED and SHORT DST: NOT INSTALLED.

What is going on? How do I get the machine to boot?

The disk-drive is in "imminent failure" status, and MUST BE REPLACED before it completely "dies".

See: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.

for information on how the "health" of your disk-drive has been monitored since the day it was installed.

Now, the monitoring has shown that at least one of the measurements is "out-of-normal-range", and SMART has flagged your disk-drive as "bad".

FIRST: backup your Personal Files to an external disk-drive (or large-capacity USB memory-stick), before it becomes "too late".

Buy a new, compatible, disk-drive, and use "disk-cloning" software to copy, block-to-block, from your current disk-drive to the new disk-drive.  Then, remove the current disk-drive, connect the new disk-drive, and boot from the new disk-drive.

If you need more details, please ask.
