Hi, for the last few days when I turn on my pc I have got an 'SMART Hard Disk Error' message display, this then goes on to tell me '1720-SMART Hard Drive detects imminent failure, Failing Drive: SATAO, Failing Attribute; #05. I run Hp's systems test and it failed the short drive self-test and I was given a failure id. My pc is two and a half years old and is out of warranty. I have my files backed up on a external drive. Could anyone help with what my options are? Do I need a new pc or can i replace the hard drive and how? Thanks in advance for anyone who can help? When first turn on pc
When continue start up

Hi:
If you are happy with the PC and don't want to buy a new one, you can replace the hard drive relatively cheaply and reinstall the operating system at no cost.
Here is the link to the service manual. The hard drive R & R procedures can be found starting on page 17.

The hard drive you currently have is 2 TB. You can replace it with another 2 TB drive, or if you don't need all that space you can get a 1 TB hard drive. The size is a standard desktop 3.5" hard drive.
To reinstall W10 you can use the Media creation tool at the link below to make a W10 installation USB flash drive or save an ISO file that you would later burn to a DVD. For the USB installer, you would need an 8 GB flash drive.

The software will work with the W10 product key in your PC's BIOS and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.
Then you can install the drivers and available software from your PC's support page.
