I enabled the Hibernate option on Windows 10.  When I click hibernate, it seems to hibernate.  However, when I later pick my laptop up, it's hot, indicating that it hasn't actually hibernated.  I also get the error message 'Boot Device Not Found.  Please install an operating system on your hard disk.  Hard Disk - (3F0).'

I have to hold down the power button to switch it off, and then switch it on again.  It starts up again with the applications that were open when I clicked Hibernate.

Any ideas on why this issue might occur?

According to the HP specs, this model has a 500GB SSD -- most likely, an NVMe SSD, and those are both really FAST and get really HOT.

Plus, Windows 10 came with something called Fast Startup automatically enabled -- which is a form of hybrid sleep, not hibernation.

And with an SSD, why are you even bothering with this? You'll save what, a few seconds, on a reboot? And in the meantime, you risk the laptop overheating on you.

Thanks @WAWood.

It's true that the machine is quick to boot, but sometimes you're busy with something and you need to pack up and continue later where you left off.  For example, you're at a coffee shop and you've got a whole lot of documents and browser windows open, and you need to leave and continue from home.  Ideally you wouldn't want to shut down the computer and have to restart and open all the documents and web pages again, but would rather hibernate so that when you resume from hibernation you are ready to continue where you left off.
