Although you never needed permission,  it was in your best interest to tread lightly until the warranty expired, and that happened in 2016.

Without telling us specifically what KIND OF change you are trying to make, we can't help you.

 

Also, if you are doing something to the OS or to the applications, and you're getting a popup window asking for permission, it wants your password.  And if you don't know that, we can't help you.
