I have an All-in-One desktop. I have facial recognition to start up my computer but I really need to add a password in case I need for a family member to use my computer when I am not personally available. Can someone please tell me how to do this? Sign-in Options tells me that password option is not available.

Hi @Rita0154,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you want to add a password to your All-in-One desktop in addition to using facial recognition, and you see that the password option is not available in the Sign-in Options, follow these steps to set up a password:
1. Verify Your Account Type
Ensure that your account is a local account rather than a Microsoft account. Password options might be restricted based on the type of account you're using.
- Local Account: You can set a password directly.
- Microsoft Account: If you’re using a Microsoft account, the password option should be available.
2. Set Up a Password for a Local Account
If you are using a local account:
Open Settings:
- Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
Navigate to Accounts:
- Go to Accounts > Sign-in options.
Add or Change Password:
- Under Password, you should see options to add or change your password. Click Add to set up a new password if one is not currently set.
Follow the Prompts:
- Enter a password, confirm it, and add a password hint if desired.
3. Add a Password to a Microsoft Account
If you are using a Microsoft account:
Open Settings:
- Press Windows Key + I to open Settings.
Navigate to Accounts:
- Go to Accounts > Your info.
Sign in with a Microsoft Account:
- Ensure you are signed in with a Microsoft account. If you are not, click Sign in with a Microsoft account instead and follow the prompts to switch.
Change Your Microsoft Account Password:
- Visit Microsoft's account security page to manage your Microsoft account settings and change your password.
Sign-in Options:
- After setting up or changing your Microsoft account password, return to Settings > Accounts > Sign-in options. You should now see the password option available.
4. Check for Group Policy Restrictions
If the password option is still not available:
Open Local Group Policy Editor:
- Press Windows Key + R, type gpedit.msc, and press Enter.
Navigate to Password Policy:
- Go to Computer Configuration > Windows Settings > Security Settings > Account Policies > Password Policy.
Check Settings:
- Ensure there are no restrictions preventing you from setting a password. If settings are configured to disallow password changes, you may need to adjust them
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
