Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have connected my PC to my TV via the CVI connection. I get the picture but am not able to access the speakers on the TV. The speakers attached to the PC work perfectly. When I click on the speak icon in the bottom right corner only the PC speakers are listed. How do I access the TV speakers. Thank you.

1. The problem was before my PC crashed I was able to audio and video transfered to the TV using the HDMI input and this cable.

2. Now I can only get the video.

3. There use to be two options under the speaker and if I selected the TV speaker as the main one it worked.

4. I can live with this as the PC speakers are right close to the TV

but I use to be able to control the audio volume using the TV control.

1. Impossible, if you only have one cable (namely DVI-output-to-HDMI-input) between your computer and your TV.

If your computer is using DVI-output, only "video" is being sent to the TV.

If your computer is using HDMI-output, then both "audio" and "video" are being sent through the one HDMI-to-HDMI cable.

2. Correct, if you are using DVI-ouput from your computer.

3. Within Windows, you need to open the "Sound" application, and select the "Playback" option, and change it from "internal speakers" to the "audio-output".  Then, connect an audio-cable from the computer's audio-output port to the audio-input port on your TV.

4. On your TV, select the "audio-source" as being the audio-input port on your TV, and your TV's remote-control can be used to control the volume of the TV's speakers.

Greetings oxcart,

Welcome back to the forum.

I am not an HP employee.

I am not aware of a CVI connection?

You would have to do an HDMI connection from the PC to the TV to hear audio.

Thank you for your reply. My mistake it is a DVI (?) connection, into the HDMI connection on the TV. I get the video but no audio. I speaker icon on the screen only shows the speakers that are connected to the PC.

Hi oxcart,

You're very welcome.

You have to use an HDMI to HDMI connection to hear audio.

DVI cannot carry audio data.

If your PC has DVI-output, instead of HDMI output, then only the "video" is being sent to the TV.

You will need a cable from the "audio-out" port (either "line-out" on a desktop computer, or "headphones-out" on a notebook) connecting to the "audio-in" port(s) on your TV, to send the audio.

You will probably have to configure the TV to select that "audio-in" port as the "active" audio port.

Hi oxcart,

You're very welcome.

Try reinstalling the graphics driver.

This may fix the audio out using HDMI.

Happiness is, an audio system that works. It turns out that the reason the AMD HDMI Output device was not showing up was somewhere I told the system to disable it. When I asked it to Show Disabled Devices, there it was. When I clicked on it and made it my default everything worked.

Thanks to everyone for your help, understanding and time.
