Greetings,
Welcome to the forum.
I am not a HP employee.
Anything unusual happen right before you received this error message?
You may have a corrupted OS boot loader or the HDD has failed.
First run HP hardware diagnostics to check the HDD. Tap "ESC" at boot. Then select Diagnostics from the Menu. Run the appropriate diagnostic test.
Let the forum know how this test goes.
No point in looking at OS software now if the HDD has failed.

Hi Camcm,
Okay, HDD diagnostics completed.
I am fuzzy on the results. Did the test tell you there is no boot device? Did the test pass or fail?
The test should have aborted if there is no HDD to analyze.
I still can't say if the HDD has failed or the OS boot loader is corrupt.
Please enter the BIOS (Link to instructions) so we can see if the HDD is detected in the BIOS.
Look in "Storage", "Device Configuration".
Please tell me if the BIOS sees your HDD.
Regards
