hp compaq pro 6300

I recently started using this desktop again and wanted a cpu upgrade. I picked up an i7 3770 instead of the i3 3220 I used throughout the years and afer I changed it and booted up the display wasn't showing anthing, the periperals weren't workin and the desktop beeped for 5 times. I couldn't do anything but just to put the new cpu back and read on the internet about what I should do. I found out I have to update the bios but I don't know the steps and where can I find the new update for the K01 bios. I need help, maybe ivin me a link with steps included and the firmware update link

Hi @emawaii

Welcome to the HP Forum.

The Pro 6300 PC specs at this Link list the i7-3770 as a CPU option. So it should work with the factory BIOS.

You can check for a BIOS update for your MB at this HP Site

Operating system options stop at W8.1 at the above HP site. So if you are using W10 then go with W.8x when selecting the BIOS update you want to download.

You also need to know if the current operating system is 32-bit or 64-bit.

Download the W.8 BIOS to a folder of your choice. Run the downloaded executable BIOS file to update the BIOS.

Doing the BIOS update is your decision. Be patient when doing a BIOS update, don't interrupt this update and loss of power during a BIOS update can corrupt the BIOS.

It is possible the i7-3770 may be faulty. You would have to try this CPU in a different, compatible, MB to see what is happening.

Regards
