Hi;
That model notebook is too old to have a UEFI BIOS and since it does not, you cannot use a GPT partitioned drive as a boot drive.
You can install a 2.5" SATA SSD and it will still work fine.
UEFI/GPT have no bearing on the drive's performance.
I have a 2.5" SATA SSD in my HP 6910p and it works great.
The 6910p is the 14.1" display version of the 8510p.
