Touchsmart IQ804
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hey guys

So I have an old HP touchsmart all in one pc that I use for word editing, surfing the web, ETC. I recently updated to windows 7 (about 5 months ago). It has worked fine up until a about 2 weeks ago when it started freezing randomly. When it freezes you have to hold the power button down and force shutdown. I thought it may have something to do with overheating so I monitored the temps for a while, but it doesnt seem to go over 35 degrees. I checked to see if I had any bloatware or viruses but it only has the bare minimum installed. Furthermore after a couple of freezes when you go to turn on the computer, nothing displays on the screen at boot. I would really apreciate any answers to my dilema.

Thanks.

Hi,

Thankyou for you help, however after installing a system temperature I found that the graphics card was running at 80 degrees on idle. So I have pulled it apart cleaned it and everything is working fine.

Thanks for your help.

Hi @Mitchell1000,

Thank you for showing your interest in HP Support Forums. It is a great place to find the help you need, from other users, HP experts, and other support personnel. I came across your post and wanted to assist you. I understand that you have an HP Touchsmart computer and it freezes often. You have performed a complete scan on your PC as well as checked for overheating and still having the issue. Don't worry as I have a few steps which should help you resolve this issue.

To provide you with an accurate solution, I'll need a few more details:

Does it freeze while on internet or playing games or doesn't matter what you do?

Have you tried to run any Windows troubleshooter?

Have you tried to update the drivers?

Meanwhile, I recommend you to perform the following steps to isolate the issue and arrive at a fix:

I would suggest please update the BIOS on your PC and check if it helps.

Also, download and install HP support assistant on your PC. It should automatically download and install the latest updates and drivers for your PC.

Refer this link to know how to use HP support assistant.

Run the system diagnostics test as well as an extensive test on the Hard drive and Memory from F2 (Please capture the failure ID for further assistance).

Depending on the test results, if all the test passes, I would suggest you perform a system recovery. Doing this will wipe off everything and set the computer back to the original factory conditions. So, please remember to back up your data before initiating system recovery. If for some reason the recovery fails. The only other way to install Windows would be to order the recovery media for your laptop and using the recovery media you can install Windows. You can check if the recovery media is available online on www.hp.com/drivers by entering the exact model no. of your laptop. To find the exact model no. click here: http://hp.care/2bygf7l

Otherwise, you could also reach HP phone support to order the recovery media. If your product is out of warranty, please choose paid options to get the tech support number.

Please use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:

Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

Step 2. Enter Product number or select to auto detect

Step 3. Scroll down to "Still need help? Complete the form to select your contact options"

Step 4. Scroll down and click: HP contact options - click on Get phone numberCase number and phone number appear.

They will be happy to assist you immediately.

Let me know if those steps worked for you.

If they did, that’s awesome!

Give us some reinforcement by clicking the solution and kudos buttons,

That’ll help us and others see that we’ve got the answers!

Good Luck.
