Hi there, my hp monitor no longer works. I tried a different hdmi cord and it still stays black, the light does not turn on either. My computer registers that it is being plugged into the monitor though, as it goes into dual screen mode. This monitor is only a couple years old.

When a monitor is black, that could be (1) the cable, (2) the monitor, (3) the video chi.

Since you have swapped out cables, that rules out (2).

You mention the computer is going into dual screen mode, so is there another monitor or display panel that is working? If so, that rules out (3).

You would need to connect another monitor to the same cable and if that works, the only thing left is a failure of the monitor.

Monitors do fail -- I have replaced more than one of mine over the years.  No one repairs them because that is always a LOT more expensive than simply replacing them.
