for the "H-Alpinia-RS780L" motherboard, which clearly has 4 SATA ports.

From: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01946060

HP and Compaq Desktop PCs Motherboard Specifications, MSI MS-7613 (Indio)

the image of the motherboard shows:

* 1 orange/red SATA port,

* 1 blue SATA port,

* 2 black SATA ports on the "bottom-edge" of the motherboard.

So, those 2 SATA cables to the "black" sockets are to be inserted "vertically" -- on the same plane as the motherboard, while the other 2 SATA cables will connect at 90 degrees to the plane of the motherboard.
