HP Pavilion HPE h8-1200ej Desktop PC

The hard drive on my HP computer got broken,

I've replaced it.

On another computer I downloaded windows media creation tool and created a bootable usb hard drive.

The problem is my HP  computer won't boot from the usb hard drive.

I've tried entering BIOS and changing usb hard drive to the top of the list in the boot order, I also tried cancelling legacy boot because it doesn't show usb hard drive in its' options.

What am I doing wrong?

It worked using the regular method but using a 16gb flash drive instead of the external hard drive.

Thank you!

I am not sure why this did not work, the USB should have shown up in legacy.  I suspect the windows 10 install needs to be UEFI and not legacy.

Before trying the UEFI boot, please verify that your system passes memory and other diagnostics

Press ESC when powering up and run diagnostics.  If there is  no HP diagnostics then go into the BIOS and enable memory testing.

If diagnostics tests pass then try creating a USB UEFI boot as follows

Download RUFUS by clicking only on the version and avoid any advertisements.

------Download the windows 10 ISO and select only the ISO file------

------specify ISO file, not USB flash-----

This will take a while.

---- After the ISO is create, insert a 16gb flash and run the rufus app.  Make sure that GPT and UEFI are listed----

On your h8 system, arrange to boot the UEFI USB.

you might look here for drivers.  https://www.google.com/search?q=hp+h8-1200ej+drivers

Lemme know if a problem.

[edit]  If the above install works, you might consider using another USB flash and configure it to install windows 11
