Hi @Monkeygirl66,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If you're experiencing issues with a missing or corrupt system registry on your HP TouchSmart 300, and reinstalling the operating system didn't resolve the problem, you may need to perform some additional troubleshooting steps. Here are some suggestions.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • Restart your computer and repeatedly press the F8 key until you see the Advanced Boot Options menu.
  • Select "Safe Mode" and press Enter.
  • If your computer boots into Safe Mode successfully, you can try performing a system restore to a point before the registry issue occurred.

Perform System Restore:

  • Boot into Safe Mode (as described above).
  • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
  • Type rstrui.exe and press Enter to open the System Restore wizard.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to restore your system to a previous point when it was working correctly.

Use Windows Startup Repair:

  • Insert your Windows installation disc or USB and restart your computer.
  • Press any key to boot from the installation media.
  • Choose your language preferences and click "Next."
  • Click "Repair your computer" and select "Startup Repair."
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to let Windows attempt to repair the startup issues.

Run SFC (System File Checker):

  • Boot from your Windows installation media.
  • Select your language preferences and click "Next."
  • Click "Repair your computer" and choose the Command Prompt option.
  • In the Command Prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter. This command will scan and repair corrupted system files.

Check Hard Drive for Errors:

  • Boot from your Windows installation media.
  • Choose your language preferences and click "Next."
  • Click "Repair your computer" and select the Command Prompt option.
  • In the Command Prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter. This command will check and fix disk errors.

Reinstall Windows:

  • If none of the above steps work, you may need to perform a clean reinstall of Windows. Ensure that you back up your important data before proceeding with this option.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
